Ashley Madison spokespeople have made the claim that AshleyMadison.com has over 10 million members. Page-ranking and web traffic metric website Alexa.org shows AshleyMadison.com getting around seven hundred thousand unique visitors (as opposed to simple page views) to the site every month.

Ashley Madison requires payment from those who wish to be active members of the dating site and its service. A person cannot contact any member of the site unless they themselves are a member. Those who aren’t full members can, however, respond to messages from those who are full-fledged members of the site.

Ashley Madison advertises their site with television ads, billboards, and even radio commercials. The radio commercials are often voiced by the AshleyMadison.com CEO himself, Noel Biderman.

An Ashley Madison television  was banned from appearing  during NBC’s broadcast of  Super Bowl XLIII in 2009. CEO Noel Biderman complained, saying  the ban was “ridiculous.”  Citing the NFL’s tolerance of alcohol advertising (alcohol being a notable cause of death every year in the US). He said he considered the NFL audience  an important part of the demographic that Ashley Madison was trying to reach, and vowed to reach them somehow.
